Common questions

  • I'm biased and believe that therapy is for everyone. And yes, I see my own therapist. That said, there are multiple factors that will determine whether therapy works for you.

    1. The therapeutic relationship: Finding a therapist you connect with, who understands you, and is skilled in helping you navigate your unique challenges is important. Take the time to find the right fit, identify what you are looking for, and ask lots of questions.

    2. Client motivation: Only you know if you are ready to begin therapy. If you're motivated, engaged, and ready to do the work, I believe positive outcomes are both possible and probable.

    3. Attending sessions: This is obvious, but showing up with regularity makes a difference. I will say mental attendance is also key. When you show up for therapy, turn off your phone and be fully present end engaged.

    4. Doing the work outside of therapy: This is important. You can learn a lot in therapy but it's what you do when you leave my office that makes the difference. My work is helping equip you with tools and understanding you can use on your own, and eventually not need me (which is hard because I like my clients!).

  • Great question! Finding a therapist whose approach fits you is very important. I have a page on this site dedicated to overviewing my style and approach to therapy. There's also another section about getting started and what the first few sessions will look like.

  • I currently practice out of Nashville Therapy Group. I practice mostly out of our Nashville office, which is near Hillsboro Village/Belmont, and see some clients out of our Brentwood/Maryland Farms location.

    Nashville office:

    2021 21st Avenue South, Suite 410
    Nashville, TN 37212

    Brentwood office:

    103 Continental Place, Suite 204
    Brentwood, TN 37027

Please note, I follow the same practice policies as Nashville Therapy Group, which can be found on their website.

  • My standard rate is $175 per 50 minute clinical hour. This cost factors the time we spend together in session, the time I spend in preparation for our time together, and time I spend after our session doing required documentation and treatment planning.

I cannot speak for all therapists, but I take our time seriously and hold myself to a high standard of being prepared for our session to make your investment meaningful for you. I think about my clients often throughout the week, actively engage in reading and continuing learning around issues my clients are talking about, and plan for our appointments well in advance of our time together.

  • I do not accept insurance and am considered an out-of-network provider. Your insurance company may reimburse a portion of your costs if you file a claim yourself, and I am happy to help provide a Superbill for services. I do accept HSA and FSA cards as payment for sessions.

  • A typical therapy session is described as a clinical hour, which is 50 minutes. Sometimes I do longer sessions based on client preference and/or if I feel a longer session would be beneficial for you. That is a recommendation I would share with you and we would discuss to determine what is best for you.

  • After getting to know you and your goals for therapy, this is a conversation I will have with clients. If I have a specific recommendation, I will certainly let you know. I am also sensitive to factors such as time and cost. Most clients start out either weekly or bi-weekly (twice a month being the most common) then after we establish the relationship and gain some progress, some clients feel like they want to space out their appointments. I am a big fan of assessing what is or is not working. Too frequent? Not frequent enough? Let's adjust. And as life happens, it's common to adjust frequency as needed. I'm flexible.

  • Short answer is it depends. People start therapy and choose to continue for many reasons. I approach therapy by first getting to know you and what you are wanting to achieve in the process, and collaboratively determine what an appropriate course of therapy will look like, based on your goals.

  • All scheduled appointments must be cancelled at least 48 hours in advance or the full fee will be charged. This is necessary because the time is reserved and held exclusively for you. You can reschedule or cancel your appointment by communicating directly with me by phone, text, or email.

I understand emergencies happen and may be out of your control. I will consider these on a case-by-case basis when charging for late cancellations and will make exceptions if possible, or try to move your session to another time during the same week if available.

No charge will ever be made when cancelling due to inclement weather, as safety always comes first.

Always know, you have the option to move your in-person appointment to online/telehealth if that is an option for you in lieu of cancelling your appointment.

  • This is a common question I hear from many of my clients. I do not consider myself a faith-based therapist. This is intentional because I feel therapy should be accessible to everyone regardless of faith background. I do believe faith and spirituality are important in therapy, especially if it is important to you, and I inquire about this as part of my intake process and initial assessment. If faith matters to you and something you wish to integrate into therapy, I am happy to to this and consider myself well equipped to do so. However, if faith is not something you wish integrated into your therapy, I respect that too.
